Visualizing Traffic Law
Skateboarders are the new pedestrian. State vehicle codes do not define skateboarders but do define pedestrians as “any person afoot.” Because a skateboarder is using his feet to propel himself down the street he is considered under state law a pedestrian, with all the privileges and duties. As a motorist, keep this in mind. As a skateboarder, know that a pedestrian does NOT always have the right-of-way, and will need to yield to bicycles and motor vehicles.

ATLC has partnered with Cycle Oregon and the Portland law firm, Swanson, Thomas and Coon to produce an Oregon bicycle and pedestrian traffic law card deck. This is a deck of 50 Oregon specific traffic law questions. Each question concerns either bicyclists or pedestrians and their rights/duties as road users.
ATLC will be launching its nationwide traffic law app this July. It offers all 50 states and DC. All questions are animated with state specific answers. It’s about time! NYC bicycle/pedestrian deck is finished. With a little sponsorship from the NYC DOT, we will have these in the hands of not just a few.
